24 Tips For A Stress-Free Wedding Morning (Getting Ready)
Putting a little effort into planning a stress-free wedding morning sets the tone for the entire day.
The getting ready part of the wedding day is so important because it determines how relaxed or unrelated the rest of the day will be.
As a wedding photographer with over 500 weddings of experience, I have put together some tips that I think you will find helpful.
Enjoy!

1. Have A Wedding Day Emergency Kit
An emergency kit can be a lifesaver (I might be being a tiny bit dramatic) on your wedding day.
As a wedding photographer, I have seen so many little things come up while couples are getting ready, and couples who had emergency kits with them were definitely the less stressed.
- Include mini sewing kits, safety pins, and a stain stick for quick fixes.
- Add pain relievers, band-aids, and other basic first-aid items for comfort.
- Pack bobby pins, hair ties, and double-sided tape for any last-minute adjustments.
- Keep a small pair of scissors for emergencies.
- Place a kit in each getting-ready location so everyone has access to essentials.

2. Prepare A Wedding Morning Playlist
A getting-ready room with a fun music playlist is a must (in my opinion).
I have photographed over 500 weddings and couples who played music while they got ready typically had more fun and less stress. And your photos will most likely be better too because everyone will be in a better mood.
A playlist filled with your favorite songs will keep you feeling relaxed, happy, and ready for the day ahead.
- Choose your favorite upbeat, feel-good songs that make you smile.
- Make a playlist in Apple Music or Spotify.
- Bring a small portable speaker. (I own this one and this one and love both)
- Make sure you have chargers for your phone and the speaker.
- An extension cord is also a great item to have just in case.

3. Schedule Plenty of Time for Hair and Makeup
I have photographed over 500 weddings and the number one wedding morning stressor, and the thing most responsible for timeline delays is the the hair and makeup process.
Giving yourself extra time for hair and makeup on your wedding morning is a must.
This buffer helps you avoid rushing and allows for any last-minute adjustments.
- Start hair and makeup earlier than you think you need to (ask your hair/makeup team and your photographer for advice).
- Add a 15-minute buffer (even if you don’t need it) between each beauty appointment to stay relaxed.
- Keep a printed or digital schedule nearby and stick to it as much as possible.
- Have a mirror and any must-have products on hand for quick touch-ups.
- I recommend having the bride go in the middle of the bridesmaids.

4. Gather All Of Your Details
Gathering everything you want photographed into a single box or bag makes it easy for your photographer to take photos of all your special details without the stress of looking for items in 5 different places.
- Include common items like your shoes, an extra invitation suite, jewelry, veil, bouquet, and a few extra blooms or greenery for flatlays.
- Keep both wedding bands (and your engagement ring) together so they can be photographed, then have someone safely store them afterward.
- Add perfume, a garter, and any other sentimental pieces you’d like captured.
5. Get Your Outfit Ready the Night Before
Having your wedding outfit prepared the night before saves valuable time on your big day and helps keep stress away.
- Hang your dress or suit somewhere safe, away from anything that could stain or wrinkle it.
- Gather your shoes, jewelry, and accessories in one spot to avoid scrambling.
- Set aside undergarments and any special pieces, like garters or cufflinks.
- Double-check that everything you need is clean, pressed, and ready to wear.
- Place a small emergency kit nearby with items like a lint roller, stain remover pen, and mini sewing kit.
6. Eat a Healthy Breakfast
A nutritious breakfast will help you stay energized and keep any nerves in check. Eating well early on will ensure you’re ready for the long day ahead.
- Opt for light, healthy foods like fruit, yogurt, or avocado toast.
- Avoid heavy or greasy foods that could upset your stomach, especially if you’re feeling nervous.
- Keep water close by to stay hydrated throughout the morning.
- Pack easy, bite-sized snacks like granola bars or nuts in case you get hungry later.
- Have breakfast with your bridal party or family to start the day.

7. Keep Your Phone on “Do Not Disturb”
Limiting distractions by putting your phone on “Do Not Disturb” helps you stay focused and fully present.
- Set your phone to allow calls only from essential people, like your partner, planner, or family.
- Ask a friend or family member to handle other incoming texts, questions, and updates.
- Avoid checking emails or social media to keep your head in the moment.
- Focus on soaking up each part of the day, letting any family and friends around you take care of the rest.
8. Surround Yourself with Positive People
Starting your wedding day with supportive people helps keep the atmosphere light and enjoyable. A positive vibe from your closest friends or family will make everything feel even more special.
- Choose a small group of close friends or family members to get ready with you.
- Avoid inviting anyone who may bring stress or drama to the morning.
- Keep the conversation cheerful, focusing on happy memories and fun plans.
- Encourage everyone to stay calm and supportive, creating a relaxed environment.
- Take a few moments to express gratitude and share the excitement together.
9. Do a Quick Stretch or Yoga Session
Taking a few minutes for a stretch or yoga session can calm your nerves and help you feel centered. It’s an easy way to start the day feeling grounded and ready.
- Choose gentle stretches that relax tense muscles, especially in the neck and shoulders.
- Follow a beginner-friendly, 10-minute yoga routine to keep it simple and effective.
- Focus on deep breathing to stay relaxed and steady.
- Consider doing a session with your entire bridal party before you start the rest of the day.

10. Delegate Tasks to Your Bridal Party
You don’t have to manage every detail yourself on your wedding morning. Handing off a few tasks to your bridal party can make your morning much more relaxed.
- Ask a bridesmaid or friend to oversee any last-minute details, like arranging flowers or gathering items.
- Let a trusted family member handle check-ins with vendors, so you can focus on getting ready.
- Assign someone to monitor the timeline and keep everything running smoothly.
- Give a bridal party member the “emergency kit” with essentials like bobby pins and band-aids.
- Trust your bridal party to take care of any minor issues that pop up so you can stay worry-free.
11. Make Sure to Stay Hydrated
Drinking enough water is essential to feeling your best on the wedding day. Staying hydrated keeps your energy up and your skin looking fresh.
- Start hydrating a few days before the wedding day
- Start your morning with a full glass of water to kickstart hydration.
- Keep a water bottle close by as you’re getting ready so you can sip throughout the morning.
- Take slow, steady sips to stay comfortable and avoid bloating.
- Alternate water with light, caffeine-free drinks like herbal tea if you’d like variety.
- Remind your bridal party to hydrate too…they’ll appreciate it as the day goes on!

12. Have a “No-Drama” Rule
Setting a “no-drama” rule creates a peaceful atmosphere, keeping everyone focused on the joy of your wedding day. This simple rule can make a big difference in reducing stress.
- Politely ask everyone to leave any negativity or issues at the door.
- Encourage light, happy conversation topics to keep the mood upbeat.
- Remind your bridal party that today’s all about celebration—save any heavy discussions for another time.
- Let everyone know it’s okay to take a breather if things get overwhelming.
- Set the tone by staying calm and positive, inspiring others to do the same.
13. Keep a Timeline/Checklist of Morning Tasks
Using a checklist can help you stay organized and on track during your wedding morning. It’s an easy way to make sure you don’t overlook any important details.
- Write down each task in order, from breakfast to getting dressed.
- Keep the checklist in a visible spot or save it on your phone for quick reference.
- Include reminders for essentials, like grabbing your bouquet or packing touch-up makeup.
- Share the list with your bridesmaids so they can help you stay on track too.
14. Double-Check Your Essentials
A quick check of your must-have items before leaving can save you from stress later in the day. Make sure you’ve got everything you need for a smooth, worry-free celebration.
- Pack a small bag with essentials like lipstick, tissues, a compact mirror, and breath mints.
- Bring your phone, ID, any necessary documents, and other key items for the day.
- Keep a comfortable pair of shoes nearby to switch into when you’re ready to dance.
- Double-check that you have any medications or personal items you may need.
- Have a family member, bridal party member, or wedding coordinator hold onto your essentials bag so it’s always within reach.
15. Give Yourself a Quiet Moment
Taking a few minutes to yourself before the ceremony can help you stay calm and fully absorb the joy of the day. It’s a simple way to pause and feel present.
- Find a quiet spot away from the hustle, even if it’s just a corner of the room.
- Take a few deep breaths to relax your mind and body, letting go of any nerves.
- Close your eyes and focus on the excitement and meaning of the day.
- Reflect on what this moment represents.

16. Allow Time for Getting Dressed
Getting dressed on your wedding morning is a special moment, so give yourself plenty of time to enjoy it without rushing. This will help you feel calm and truly soak in the experience.
Plus your getting-ready photos will be much better.
- If you and your bridesmaids have getting-ready outfits (robes, pajamas, etc.), schedule some time in the timeline to get some fun posed photos (even if it’s just someone taking some candids on a phone).
- Ask someone you trust to help with buttons, zippers, or laces, especially if your outfit has tricky details. Have a plan for who you want to do this (mom, sister, best friend, etc.).
- Make sure anyone helping you get dressed gets dressed before you. This way everyone looks their best in photos.
- Have all your accessories nearby, so you’re not searching for anything last-minute.
17. Play a Favorite Movie or Show
Watching a feel-good movie or show can be a wonderful way to relax and keep your spirits high on the morning of your wedding. It’s the perfect light-hearted distraction to set a happy mood.
- Pick a favorite romantic comedy or something guaranteed to make you laugh (I have seen The Wedding Singer and Bridesmaids played in multiple getting-ready rooms).
- Keep it playing softly in the background while you’re getting ready (if it’s too loud it can cause unwanted stress).
- Choose something you know well, so you can enjoy it without needing to focus too much.

18. Keep a Snack Tray Handy
A tray of light snacks within reach is a lifesaver on your wedding morning. It ensures everyone stays energized and happy before the ceremony without getting too hungry.
- Include healthy options like fruit, nuts, or granola bars.
- Avoid foods that are messy or could stain (so no Cheetos or Nacho Cheese Doritos)
- Place a small cooler nearby with chilled drinks to stay hydrated and refreshed.
- Encourage your bridal party to snack as they need, so everyone stays fueled up and ready.
19. Plan for Extra Time with a Buffer
Adding an extra 15-30 minutes to your morning schedule between events gives you a cushion in case anything takes longer than expected. This buffer will help you stay calm and avoid feeling rushed.
- Use any extra time to relax, breathe, and enjoy the moment before things get busy.
- It’s much better to be ready a little early than to feel pressed for time.
- Keep a gentle eye on the schedule but stay flexible if things run slightly behind.

20. Take a Quick Walk Outside
Stepping outside for a short walk can clear your mind and calm your nerves on a busy morning. Fresh air and a brief change of scenery can work wonders.
- Take a 5-10 minute walk by yourself or with a friend to enjoy a peaceful moment.
- Use this time to mentally prepare for the amazing day ahead.
21. Limit the Number of People in the Room
Keeping the getting-ready room quiet and calm can make all the difference on your wedding morning. Limiting the number of people around you helps maintain a stress-free vibe.
- Only allow those directly helping you get ready, like your makeup artist, mom, sister, and or bridal party.
- Ask family and friends to stop by later to keep the space from feeling crowded.
22. Keep A List Of Your Vendors and Their Contact Info
Having your vendors’ contact information ready can save you from last-minute stress. It’s an easy way to handle any issues that might pop up without disrupting your morning.
- Save each vendor’s phone number on your phone or print out a list for easy access.
- Share the list with your maid of honor or a trusted friend who can handle questions for you.
- Let your designated helper manage any calls or updates with vendors to keep you stress-free.

23. Use a Steamer for Any Dress Wrinkles
A steamer is essential for getting rid of any last-minute wrinkles and making sure your dress looks flawless for the big day. It’s a quick fix that keeps your outfit looking its best.
- Steam your dress while it’s hanging to smooth out wrinkles without adding new creases.
- Double-check other clothing items, like bridesmaid dresses or suits, for any last-minute touch-ups.
- Ask a bridesmaid or family member to help out if you’re busy with other tasks.
- Avoid ironing delicate fabrics to prevent damage; a steamer is gentle and safe.
***I have seen many brides use this steamer. It’s affordable and has great reviews.
24. Stay Focused on the Big Picture
With so many little details to think about, it’s easy to lose sight of what really matters. Remind yourself that the day is about celebrating love and joy, not about perfection.
- Focus on the excitement and happiness of the day, letting go of any pressure for everything to be perfect.
- Remember that small hiccups are normal and won’t impact the beautiful memories you’re making.
- Take a deep breath and enjoy each moment, knowing it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
- Let go of any minor issues…what matters most is sharing this day with your partner and loved ones.
Final Thoughts
Your wedding day morning should be filled with happiness and excitement for the day ahead.
By following even just a few of the tips that I gave above, you will be setting yourself up to have a fun and stress-free wedding day.
Remember…it’s not about perfection…it’s about celebrating love and making memories that will last a lifetime.
