30 Fun Winter Engagement Photo Ideas
If you are looking for some amazing winter engagement photo ideas, you have come to the right place!
As a wedding and engagement photographer, I have photographed over 500 engagement sessions, and winter sessions are some of my favorites.
While many couples prefer warmer weather for these photo sessions, others love the cozy look of winter-themed engagement photos.
Here are a few fun winter engagement photos to use for inspiration on your upcoming engagement session:
Snowboarding Or Skiing Engagement Photos
If you and your partner are snowboarders or love to ski, you could show off your love for the slopes in some of your photos.
You could make it a very styled photo session like the one below with the bride-to-be in the pink jacket, or you can simply wear what you would normally wear to your day on the mountain like the photo below with the couple in blue and pink pants.

Include Your Dog or Other Pets
Including your dog in your winter engagement photos is an easy way to personalize your photo session.
You can put a cute sweater or vest on your dog to keep him/her warm if the weather is really cold.

Go Ice Skating
Ice skating is another fun winter activity that would be perfect for your engagement photos.
I love how this couple wore very neutral-colored outfits that were very complimentary of each other.
I also love how they made a photo session out of the experience by getting photos that were candid and in the moment like the photo on the far left, but also got some cute posed pictures like the middle and right photos.

Go Sledding
If you are not much of a skier or snowboarder, consider showing off your snow sledding skills for your engagement session.
The great thing about photos like these is that you can head to almost any local park in the snow.

Use Bright Colors
The winter environment is typically dull and bland since most of the trees have lost their leaves.
A great way to brighten up your winter engagement photos is to wear a fun pop of color.
The key to making this look work well is to wear a mostly neutral-colored outfit and then add one bright color as an accent.
I love how the couple below used the color red and included it in both the girl’s hat and the guy’s shirt.

The couple below also went with the color red but only the bride-to-be wore it as an accessory. Wearing a bright-colored jacket allows her to remove for a few photos to get a completely different look with only the white sweater.

Visit A Christmas Tree Farm
If you want a fun winter-themed engagement session, head to a local Christmas tree farm or tree stand and ask the owners if you can take a few quick photos.
It makes the perfect backdrop for a Christmas-themed engagement session.
I love how the couple chose perfectly coordinated outfits (blue jeans, brown boots, and gray sweaters).

Try Snowshoeing
If you love winter activities, snowshoeing could be a really fun activity to try for your engagement photos.
My wife and I used to snowshoe when we lived in Lake Tahoe and it was so much fun!

Make A Campfire
Making a campfire is a great way to get a cozy look to your engagement photos.

Include Props In Your Winter Engagement Photos
Consider adding a prop or two to your engagement photos to give them a winter look and style.
The couple below (left) brought a bright-colored blanket and the couple on the right used coffee mugs with their initials and a Christmas wreath.

The photo on the left shows an engagement ring being shown off in a handful of snow and the couple on the right posed in front of a bright red barn.

Head To The City
If you are not a fan of the snow, or if you don’t live in a location that gets the white stuff, put on a nice outfit and head to the city.
Most cities decorate their downtown area for the holiday season. This will give you instant props that have a winter feel.

Play Around In The Snow
If you live near snow, the easiest way to get winter-themed engagement photos is to play around in the snow.
Once again, consider wearing neutral outfits with a pop of color to add fun and vibrancy to your photos.
